1) Make things clear and easy to read
2) Use the Power Point as an outline not a word for word script
3) Make eye contact with your audience throughout your presentation
4) Print needs to be legible
Things not to do
1) Don't read directly off the projection screen, this requires you to turn your back to your audience, use the computer the notes part is there for a reason
2) Don't use obnoxious animations or sounds, if they are appropriate they can add a lot to a presentation
3) Don't use irrelevant pictures, they just distract people
4) Don't use illegible fonts, or really small font sizes
The three slide shows I liked the best were: Xin Ma's because it was very well crafted and clever, Bart Taylor's because it was concise and to the point, and Miti's because it was well crafted with a good use of irony.

You made a good point to not read directly off your slides. That really does make a presentation much better.
